Managing time as an adult learner
Introduction
In life, the process of learning never ends. Learning takes place in different places and under different circumstances. Adult learners can be looked at as the people who have learning activities to attend to as well as other activities in life. These are the people who learn, work, and take care of their families. One of the qualities that separate the excellent learners from those that are above average is time management. In a learning setting, time management is one of the qualities that is most advocated for. Learning to manage time is important in any learning process. Time management is important in the process of learning as it allows the learner to gather as much as they can within the time allocated for learning. Effective time management for adult learners lies in prioritization, scheduling, decision making, and the proper use of technology. (Downs, 2008)

All these should be planned for to ensure that the process of learning takes place in an effective manner without necessarily interfering with the other sections of life. The greatest challenge for adult students is finding a balance between the study activities and the other sections of life. This calls for effective time management skills. One of the areas that are mostly affected in such planning is with regards to appointments. Adult learners usually find themselves in situations where mismanagement of time has led to missed appointments. Some of these appointments are not easy to schedule and need prior arrangements. With this in mind, one of the skills that can be employed to ensure effective management of time for adult learners is prior preparation. Appointments should be planned at least a fortnight before they come to pass. This will ensure that a learner has enough time to mange the changes that will take place in the studying process.
