OP-ED About Climate Change EXPOS UA-4

Research Paper Instructions:

Just complete it in about 550 words. Thank you.
As you know, an op-ed is a persuasive essay that offers an original perspective about a timely topic. The task for your third essay is to write an op-ed that argues clearly, logically, and persuasively for a position on a key contemporary issue, using the findings of a recent scientific or scholarly article as evidence.
You will also submit a carefully revised version of your op-ed pitch, written to convince an editor that your op-ed's is worthy of publication. The final version of the pitch and the op-ed will be graded together.
Here are the main criteria by which the final version of your op-ed and pitch will be assessed:
Timeliness: it’s clearly relevant to a major issue we face today
Angle: it offers a new, unexpected perspective on the issue
Clarity: the main argument is expressed clearly
Evidence: it cites credible evidence, such as prior published texts, data, and personal experience
Significance: it’s clear why the argument matters, why readers should care
Credibility: the writer seems knowledgeable and authentic as a spokesperson on the issue
Consult the Op-Ed Project and New York Times columnist Bret Stephens' advice for further guidance.
The total length of the final submission should be 4-5 pages. The op-ed itself should be between 750 and 1000 words (3-4 pages), and the pitch should fill no more than 1 page. The pitch should appear first, as a separate page with a separate MLA-formatted heading. The op-ed should then appear on a new page with a separate MLA heading and a title. However, you must submit them as a single Word or PDF file.
The op-ed must cite 3 pieces of evidence, at least two of them written texts. One must be a scholarly or scientific article published within the past 12 months, preferably from the list of recommended sources. (Request approval for other scholarly/scientific sources.) Another might be a text from the Brooklyn Reader. Other possible evidence includes: personal experience, news articles, data and statistics, etc.
The additional formal and technical requirements are:
A clear, plain, direct style that would engage the interest of an average newspaper reader.
Thorough proofreading and editing; avoidance of typos.
Adherence to all MLA formatting standards: a heading; a title; page numbers; double spaced; ~12-point font; 1”-1.25” margins. (Look at the first page of this sample paper for an example of this.)
MLA parenthetical citations of written sources, and a Works Cited list (sample here) on a separate page

EXPOS UA-4
19 November 2018
Dear Editors,
OP-ED about climate change
I study Integrated Digital Media at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering. I am writing to propose an op-ed about the hot topic that people are discussing nowadays, climate change.
Due to an article Polar Bears Really Are Starving Because of Global Warming, Study Shows from National Geographic published on February 1st, 2018, the impact of the climate change has received much attention. Most people do not have any great reaction on the global warming since we have not felt the significant impact of the global warming in our everyday life, or people know it is an ongoing issue but don’t have any actual deeds which could prevent our environment the slow down the global warming. However, what people do not realize is that global warming is now severely affecting our globe, if people are not aware of this issue, they global warming will only accelerate and it will not only lead the polar bear to extinction but also us human and the place we live in, the earth.
My op-ed will argue that how the climate change, global warming will impact our civilization. I will use the article that I read in the Brooklyn Reader and the recent news about the global warming to show that, contrary to popular opinion, the current American president Donald Trump was holding the idea that global warming is a hoax since 2012. However, he has reiterated his doubt about global warming suggest that the climate could “change back again,” which is a twisted idea of his hoax though. He still doesn’t believe in global warming and said that “I think something is happening. Something is changing, and it will change back again.” This is important for readers to understand because there are people who have not have an awareness of the severity of global warming.
I can offer a unique perspective on this issue because I am now researching the how global warming affects us human and our civilization; also I was also inspired by an article Learning How to Die in the Anthropocene by Scranton. This article has given me a unique perspective and shifted my original standard thought about global warming.
Thanks for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Yining Wang

OP-ED about climate change
Emerging evidence is growing harder and harder to ignore the concerns about climate change. The change is already having a profound and detrimental impact on public health. Warm temperatures around the world are creating and complicating a whole host of health challenges, many of which have been all too obvious this year. A bombshell report was dropped over Thanksgiving. The Fourth National Climate Assessment provided perhaps the most detailed scientific assessment of how climate change is going to impact every area of our lives. As environmentalists are planning address the health impact of global warming, we should remember that the unnaturally warm surface of waters of the Atlantic Ocean has helped produce a historically high run o...
