ENGL 102. Poor People Don’t Have Opportunities. Research Paper

Research Paper Instructions:

For this fifth assignment of the semester you need to create a draft of the first half of your research project. Since your final research paper has to be at least twelve pages of text, this first half draft must be at least four to six pages long. You should note that if your first-part draft is four pages long, the second-part draft will need to be at least eight pages so the total of the two is at least twelve pages. Only full pages count. If your first-part draft is four and a half pages, your second-part draft will need to be at least eight full pages long.
This draft should have a thesis statement in the introductory paragraph(s). Please underline your thesis statement so that I’m able to easily identify your intended thesis. Each of the paragraphs in this draft must be a minimum of five sentences long (I recommend striving for seven-to-ten sentence paragraphs for this draft, but five is the minimal requirement). Your draft pages should have one-inch margins all around. You should double-space the type, and you use 12-point Times New Roman type.
Your draft should have an average of two citations per page from five different sources. You are not required to have two citations on each page, but the total number of citations for the draft must be at least ten. You should also include a works cited page on an additional sheet at the end.

ENGL 102
Poor People Don’t Have Opportunities
Introduction
Inequality in society is demonstrated by the existence of disparity between the rich and the poor. A large population of the people in modern society is considered to be earning below-average incomes which cannot afford them basic human needs. In a world where everything has turned to have monetary value, financial resources are required to get them. Accessing and affording basic human needs has become almost impossible for most of the population in the world. The disparity between the poor and the rich is a result of differences in the accessibility of resources such as education, shelter, money among others (Smith, 2015). The rich have access to many opportunities because they continue to gain more wealth through a further investment of the financial resources at their disposal. The poor continue to wallow in poverty while the rich utilize their resources to enrich themselves even more.
According to research, it is argued by scholars that most of the rich individuals continue to gain wealth through further investment with their financial resources. Smith Laura in his work Psychology, Poverty, and the end of Social Exclusion: Putting Our Practice to Work (2015) says we all have roles to play in eradicating poverty. He goes ahead to explain that most rich people tend to neglect those who are less fortunate. (Smith, 2015). Narayan Deepa in Poverty is Powerlessness and Voicelessness (2017) says that poverty is confined to a group. He urges that awareness is needed to come up with decent policies that would help in eradicating poverty. Every society has a line drawn between the rich and the poor. The two social classes are independent and, in most cases, the rich arrange their own to privileged opportunities (Narayan, 2017).
Body
Indeed, the poor do not have opportunities. Humanity needs to access equal privileges that life brings along. They include education, equal employment opportunities among others. As this should be the case, the current society is very discriminative. The rich have alienated themselves from the poor. Many reasons have led to this.
1 Access to amenities and resources
Access to amenities and basic resources is an essential factor in eradicating poverty in the society. These amenities include schools, hospitals, trading centers among others and they strive to empower the poor in the society. Ensuring they have good health might see them getting advantages of certain opportunities like being enrolled in army training due to strong physical health. Unfortunately, the best of these amenities only serves the rich because the poor cannot afford them. They are always expensive. Take for example the best health centers available. Most of them are very expensive and can only serve the rich (Narayan, 2017).
Another very crucial amenity is education. Education has always been termed as “the key to success” by scholars. Accessing quality education by individuals makes it easy for them to explore different opportunities within society. However, different types of education exist and accessing the quality type requires expensive monetary investments. The disparity between the rich and...
