The issue am research about is racial disparity and police brutality in the United States. This is a problem in the United States as black people are more likely to be shot to dead by the U.S police force compare to their white counterpart. The FBI data has revealed that the U.S. police kill African Americans at disproportionate rates, and in 2012 lone, 31 percent of police killings comprised of the black people. The shocking statics is that black people only account for only 13 percent of the total population in the United States. While this data is insufficient since it is based on voluntary reporting from police agencies in the country, it portray a major disparity in how the police use their force against the black people.
This issue largely affects the African Americans in terms of their wellbeing, health, violence and patenting. The affected individuals experience identity shift, powerlessness, health impacts, and restrained physical movements. Studies have revealed that such kind of brutality and institutional racism has a direct impact of the health of African Americans. This amounts to a public health issue that should be dealt with by the U.S. government, although it is yet to be considered in that light. It is time for the government to provide protection to African Americans who continue to suffer from this public health and social problem.
