Growth and Development
Answer the following questions: 1) Why is the period of the embryo regarded as the most dramatic prenatal phase? Why is the period of the fetus called the “growth and finishing” phase? 2) How do the diverse capacities of newborn babies contribute to their first social relationships? Provide as many examples as you can for newborn reflexes, newborn states of being, and sensory capacities. 3) Based on the research presented, which infant enrichment program would you choose: one that emphasizes gentle talking and touching and social games, or one that includes reading and number drills and classical music lessons? Explain. 4) Provide several examples of how motor development influences infants’ and toddlers’ social experiences. How do social experiences, in turn, influence motor development?

The period of the embryo is the phase that lasts six weeks from the time of implantation. It is regarded as one the phases that is very dramatic during the prenatal care given that it is during this time that the ground woks of the organs and the body structures of the baby are laid out. As such, it is during this phase that the embryonic disks form the three layers of cells. The first layer referred to as the ectoderm, later develops into the skin and the nervous system. The mesoderm on the other hand latter develops into the muscle, skeletal issues, and the circulatory system among the other crucial internal organs of the body. The third layer called the endoderm latter on develops into the glands, urinary tract, the lungs and the digestive system.Mutation in any of the differentiation, will lead to very limiting conditions in the body. The period of the foetus is referred to as the ‘growth and finishing phase’ due to the fact that most of the organs and structures are fully developed by the end of the phase.
By the end of the foetus phase, the foetus has organs that are functioning including sensory aspects such as taste, smell, pain and sound. The increased capacities are due to the increased responsiveness to the stimuli in their environment. By bating in the amniotic fluids as well as swallowing the fluids, the foetus develops the sense of smel...
