In this second portion of the Final Exam, you will identify and critically evaluate a quantitative research article based on a social science topic. Your selected article must include a research question(s) and/or hypothesis(es) and utilize statistical analyses covered in the course. The article must be peer-reviewed and published within the last 10 years.
In the body of your critique, describe the statistical approaches used, the variables included, the hypothesis(es) proposed, and the interpretation of the results. In your conclusion, suggest other statistical approaches that could have been used and, if appropriate, suggest alternative interpretations of the results. This process will allow you to apply the concepts learned throughout the course in the interpretation of actual scientific research. Your critique must include the following sections:
Introduction: This section will include a general introduction of the quantitative study from a peer-reviewed source published within the last 10 years. The research questions and/or hypothesis(es) as well as the purpose of the study should be clearly defined.
Methods: Describe and evaluate the procedures and methods of data collection, measures/instruments used, the participants and how they were selected, and the statistical techniques used.
Results: In this section describe and critique the results presented in the study.
Discussion: Discuss and evaluate the efficacy of the results presented in the study. Address, the strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of the study, and suggest future research directions. Include additional forms of statistical analyses as part of the suggestions for future research.
The Research Study Critique:
Must be three to four double-spaced pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Use 12-point font, with 1-inch margins.

Introduction
In the year 2008, roughly 40 percent of all marriages in the United States ended in divorce. The effects of divorce could be significant for children of families in which parents have divorced. For instance, kids whose parents have divorced have a 50 percent chance of developing health problems compared to those whose parents still live together (Uphold-Carrier & Utz, 2012). Likewise, kids whose parents have divorced also exhibit delayed psychological development, poorer school performance, as well as poorer mental health. Roughly 20 percent of divorces happen in couples who have been married for more than 15 years (Uphold-Carrier & Utz, 2012). In this article, Uphold-Carrier and Utz (2012) report on an analysis they carried out with the objective of identifying if kids exhibited dissimilar kinds of consequences basing on age at which their father and mother chose to divorce. In particular, they investigate if the timing of divorce has lasting effects on 2 different outcomes: the mental health status of children later in life, and their perceptions of family solidarity. Uphold-Carrier and Utz (2012) chose these two outcomes as they represent various consequences that involve personal mental health as well as later relationships with family. The research questions that Uphold-Carrier and Utz (2012) used are as follows: (i) what are the lasting effects of parental split-up and divorce? Do these long-term consequences differ by the timing of the divorce? (ii) What might help in explaining these differences?
Methods
The data used by Uphold-Carrier and Utz (2012) was derived from MIDUS. MIDUS study was done in 2 waves. Wave I was essentially a nationwide study that involved over 7,000 midlife persons in the United States aged from 25-75 years; this first wave was done in the years ’95 and ’96. Roughly 84 percent of the initial sample was interviewed again ten years later between the year 2004 and the year 2006, thereby creating a longitudinal data set. Uphold-Carrier and Utz (2012) in their analysis used the sample offered by the follow-up wave known as MIDUS II which was carried out from 2004 and completed in the year 2006. The participants in MIDUS II included persons aged thirty-five years to eighty-six years. During data collection, computer-aided personal interviews, mailed questionnaires, and computer-aided telephone interviews were utilized. In total, MIDUS 2 sample had participants who numbered about 5,900.
Measures: the dependent variables (DV) measured 2 likely effects of parental divorce – perceived family solidarity and depression. The independent variables (IV) assessed the timing of divorce (Uphold-Carrier & Utz, 2012).
