Red bull is an energy drink that is sold by a company from Australia called red bull GmbH; it’s the most popular energy drink in the world with over five billion cans being sold every day. Despite its popularity the drink is faced by stiff competition from emerging energy drinks such as monster. Red bull faces both direct competition as well as indirect competition. Direct competition is a case where two firms offers essentially the same good or service. Red bull direct competitors in the market have increased in the past one decade as energy drinks become very popular (Armina, 2010). During the last decade hundreds of energy drinks have been established around the world. The energy drinks are usually of the same ingredients Guarana extracted from a rare Brazilian plant mixed with other ingredients (Energyfiend, 2012)
The serious direct competitors of red bull include purdey’s gold high energy this is an energy drink that is prepared from the ingredients of vitamins, sugar, herbs and carbohydrate. The drink is parked in a golden 325ml bottle and the standard price is one pound. The other direct competitor is indigo this is a drink made from wolfberry, Guarana and schizandra, its parked in a 375ml blue bottle and its price ranges around 0.79 pound. The next direct competitor is lipovitan B3 composed of taurin and caffeine packed in a 250ml can and price ranges around 0.99 pound. The next direct competitor is lucozade energy composed of caffeine and glucose packed in a 350ml can or 300ml bottle lucozade design costs about 0.49 pound (Burt, 2012) .The indirect competitors are those from the glucose or the conventional energy drink family.
