How People with Autism View the World Differently
Introduction
The number of disorders that affect different people in the world today is very high. Sadly, some of these disorders have no permanent solution; therefore, the only thing that can be done is to manage the situation and provide a good environment for the growth and development of the affected. People with disorders mostly feel neglected and unwanted if adequate love and care is not provided for them on a daily basis. Most of the disorders have natural causes whereas some may happen through an accident or in other instances inherited from the family line. Autism is a disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain and leads to minimal social interaction, impaired speech and results to a form of inhibited and repetitive behavior among the affected people (American Speech Language Hearing Association). Affected people often describe the world as a confused place with characters, happenings and places that cannot be explained. Their view of the world therefore enables us understand their minimal social interactions and their controlled behavior when it comes to relating with other people.
Studies reveal that people with autism generally have a different outlook on the different aspects of life. Their focus mainly lies on the ability to identify colors and bright objects compared to noticing the faces and structures of the people they interact with on a daily basis (Weiss, Thomson & Chan 630). They hardly pay attention to body weight, skin color and the height of a person, therefore, their attention is mostly drawn to other things which are hardly noticeable by a normal person. Despite the fact that autism can be of different types, it is undeniable that people with autism not only concentrate the little things but their focus is also determined by the presence of colorful and attractive objects. Their inability to detect feelings and facial expressions can be attributed to the fact that they rarely look at the people they interact with on the face. In most instances, their ability to concentrate on one thing for a long time is affected by their short attention span.
Caregivers, trained teachers and guardians understand that anti- social behaviors associated with autism are largely formed due to the communication difficulties and very low concentration levels (Howlin, Gordon, Pasco, Wade & Charman 473). Understanding that such people require special attention, specialized care and patience enables them to effectively provide for their needs. In most scenarios, people with autism are affected by the smallest things for instance the least sound, the taste and smell of different things might have a huge impact on them.
