The Unsolved Murder of Jam Master Jay, Who Did It?
Jam Master Jay was born as Jason William Mizell on January 21st, 1965 in Brooklyn, New York City. Since his childhood days, Jam Master Jay had a knack for music, and he learned to play a variety of music instruments including the trumpet, drums, bass, as well as the guitar. Initially, he played at his local church, but it was evident that his talent had to be broadcasted on a wider scale. The moment he discovered the turntables, Jam Master Jay knew that he had found that which he wanted to pursue his entire life. He first started interacting with the turntables at age 13, and after a whole year of dedication to the craft of DJing, he began playing at bars as well as parks. By this time, he had already created a name for himself, and in 1982, he met with Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “D.M.C.” and decided to join them as a DJ. As part of Run-D.M.C., Jam Master Jay mostly did turntable work and also played the keyboard and drums. The man was indeed a genius whose gift in music was priceless. Until his untimely death in October 2002, Jay was one of the elites in the Hip-Hop industry, and hence his death was thus a great loss.

However, despite his status even in death, it takes research to get to know anything about Jay. The NYPD has also come under intense pressure because of his murder. It is often reported that there were five witnesses to the murder as well as several security cameras. However, despite the presence of such, there remain gaps to be filled, and the question who killed Jay is yet to be answered.
Jay’s untimely death took place in a recording studio (Merrick Boulevard) in Jamaica, Queens. Before his death, Jay was playing Madden 2002 with one of the witnesses who also happens to have been one of Jay’s closest friends Uriel “Tony” Rincon. Aside from Rincon, the other eyewitness was Lydia High. “According to Rincon, Jay failed to defend himself because he knew his killer. ‘Had there been immediate animosity or if there was a problem, they wouldn’t have been that close,’ says Rincon” (Adaso, 2016). Rincon was also shot in the leg with the first bullet, but despite being close to the person who pulled the trigger, he also has not been able to provide any substantial evidence to help the case. Conversely, Lydia too never gave the investigators (NYPD) any significant information which they...
