The Accuracy of College Entrance Exam Scores on Predicting Future Success
Most colleges have distinct criteria to follow when admitting new students. The most common is using entrance exams like the American College Testing (ACT), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Achievement Tests (AT). A student has to pass these tests to be admitted to a college, for those that use them as admission requirements. The impact of these entrance exam scores on predicting students' future success is a contentious issue. Traditionally, the performance in the entrance exams would rate the student's average performance because it rates their academic abilities. However, the students may get a leakage of the exams and pass them well, but that would not reflect their level of smartness. Other students can revise extensively, accumulating short-term knowledge to pass the tests, but this will not reflect their long-term success. Therefore, although the college entrance exam scores may help predict students' future success, they are not an accurate predictor and colleges and universities should require the scores but should not use them as admissions criteria. If they must, colleges and universities must consider the student's high school GPA and use it alongside the entrance exam scores.

(2023), entrance examinations
