Epidemiological Issues of Tuberculosis in India
Each of you will identify a developing country and one disease or health issue prevalent in that country and present the information in a paper. After you choose a developing country, identify one (1) health issue; describe the epidemiological issues (incidence and prevalence, morbidity and mortality etc.). Describe your plan to address the issue. Outline your steps in developing your plan. Include health issues, political and social issues, etc. that must be addressed and how you would address them. Also, if you were to track the disease, which would be the epidemiological approach to track it and why (ie case study, cohort, etc) and why. Additionally, compare the treatment an individual from that developing country would receive compared to what they would receive in USA for the chosen disease. Discuss opportunities for public health professionals to impact care for patients (primary, secondary and/or tertiary prevention) with the chosen illness locally and globally. The paper should be 4-5 pages in length, double spaced, with references in APA style.

Epidemiological Issues of Tuberculosis in India
Tuberculosis is one of the major diseases that challenge public health in India. The chronic disease continues to impact the mortality and morbidity rates in the country. Globally, the disease is among the top ten causes of death. According to the WHO 2019 report, ten million individuals were diagnosed with the infectious disease (Sharma et al., 2019). Out of those, India contributed 2.7 million. Therefore, India accounts for 27% of illnesses and 25% of deaths globally (Sharma et al., 2019).
A report by the National Library of Medicine in 2021 provided the trend for the past three years on the morbidity and mortality of the disease in India. The report indicated a significant decrease in mortality and incidence of the disease in all age groups and genders from 1990 to 2019. However, males had a higher incidence and mortality compared to females with the elderly being more susceptible to contracting the illness (Sharma et al., 2019). The TB prevalence in India remains a concern due to overcrowding, poverty, limited healthcare access, malnutrition, and the use of drug-resistant strains. Despite the country adopting the National Strategic Plan 2017-2025, the disease is still a threat to the country thus the need for the four strategic pillars of “detect-treat-prevent-build.”
