Strategic Communication Case Study
Research In Motion (RIM) quickly gained popularity among investors after being established in 1984 by Mike Lazaridis and Doug Fregin. It merged with other telecommunications firms to become the market leader in mobile communications. By releasing the Blackberry 5810 in 2002, RIM's success, led by Mike and Jim as the senior CEOs, achieved a significant breakthrough. The business saw tremendous success and a sizable market share through the gradual release of several Blackberry series. Around 2006, the RIM Company's inventiveness hit a wall, and a sharp decrease in its market share ensued. Instead of concentrating on their products to discover their weaknesses and strengths, the marketing staff criticized their rivals, which was ineffective. Additionally, they did not prioritize simplicity in their products' overall layout, instead emphasizing partner demands rather than customer needs. These elements demonstrated a level of incompetence on the part of the RIM Company overall.
The anonymous staff member letter also disclosed multiple instances in which the business management was undermined. Having two CEOs turned out to be a bad decision. When top managers collaborate, turnover and decreased company performance are frequent outcomes. Founding partners do not wish to establish a hierarchy, yet doing so is counterproductive for the business (Brown, 2019). The business now sees both founders as equals due to the creation of co-CEOs. The founding partners are likely not equally responsible for daily operations; instead, one founder may bear the burden of the others. It could lead to br...
