Analyze the Public Speaking Skills of Presenters
Introduction
Public speaking skills is an essential skill that allows an individual to communicate ideas and persuade people about different issues. There are crucial aspects of public speaking that determine whether the speaker is successful or not. Through practice and preparation, it is possible to confidently and deliver the presentation uniquely. The goal of every production is to focus on a particular objective and present the information with passion. Effective presentation maintains a simple language, focuses on the core message and the audience's expectations.
Another important aspect of effective public speaking is maintaining eye contact and start the message strongly. The length of the presentation is also an important factor that determines how effective the speaker is. Through the presentation, it is important to tell stories. Stories are important because they assist people in remembering the most important information. Therefore, the ability to use stories will ensure that the audience remains engaged and is able to remember the points long after the presentation. Framing the presentation in the form of a story is an aspect that determines how effective the speaker is.
Erica Stone: Academic Research is Publicly Funded — Why Isn't It Publicly Available?
The presentation centers on why academic research is publicly funded but never available for free. In the United States, research in public universities is financed from public money. The issue limits people to access important information. Stone advocates for an open-access relationship between scholars and the public.
Several aspects make the speaker's style effective. First, she introduces her topic using by posing a question. This keeps the audience in anticipation of what might be the issue being addressed. The presentation is also styled in a story-like format, making it easy for the audience to understand and relate. One of the things that the speaker did well was giving a detailed exposition of the problem she was addressing. By giving details of how the public funds' research and the public have to pay in order to access information that it funded initially, she sets a strong premise for the arguments against the practice and what she recommends and legible approach in public-funded research. I want to do this when doing a public presentation (Stone, n.d.).
Although the speaker had organized her information well, she appeared to be somewhat nervous and unsettled. The lack of confidence was also exhibited in her body movements. I believe that whenever someone is delivering a speech, it is important to not only portray an understanding of the subject but also to have confidence during the presentation. This is important because it makes it easy for the audience to believe what you are presenting. The lack of self-confidence may have affected the credibility of the presentation. In my public speaking, I would like to exhibit self-confidence and proper body movements to focus on the message. The body language, gestures, a...
