1 Are the study findings valid/trustworthy/and credible? (Is this good solid research?)
No
1 How were the study participant’s chosen?
The study utilized a non-probability voluntary sampling where forty-five and thirty-six nurses and doctors, respectively, voluntarily participated in the study.
2 How were accuracy of data and completeness of data assured?
A survey-questionnaire entitled Data Collection Form of Surgical Smoke and Risks were answered by the participants. It has been noted that only the nurses were able to participate fully while only thirty-six percent of the doctors were able to complete the survey. It was not stated on how the researchers were able to verify the information. Thus, the research may have overseen the accuracy of the information gathered. However, the information gathered was complete as evidenced by 0% dropout rate from the beginning to the end of the study.
3 How plausible/believable are the results?
Pearson’s Chi-square test of independence was used with the level of significance set at 0.05. This means that the power of the study was at 95%. The researchers were able to compute and correlate the p-value between groups and among the problems or symptoms experienced by the patients. Thus, the method of analysis is valid and plausible.
2 Do the findings fit the data from which they were generated? Yes
3 What are the results of the study and are they important?
The results signify that the majority of the nurses and doctors have suffered from coughs. Nurses and the women have more significant symptoms than the doctors and men, respectively at a p-value of ≤ 0.05. Additionally, the most common symptoms related to the exposure to surgical smoke include headache, watery eyes, and burning throat. However, the results also revealed that the participants, especially the nurses did not take effective precautionary measures. These results are significant for the study.
A. Does the research approach fit the design of the study? No
* How does the researcher identify the study approach?
It is stated in the study design.
* Are language and concepts consistent with the approach?
No. The language and concepts utilized are more consistent with a quantitative descriptive research.
* Are the data collection and analysis techniques appropriate?
No. The Pearson’s Chi-square test must be used in qualitative data for the test of independence. The researchers used this test to compare the numbers of the doctors and nurses who had the same symptoms.
* Is the significance/importance of the study explicit?
Yes. The findings contribute to t...
