There Will Be Pain - With Oil Cheap, Arab States Cannot Balance
The Middle East has undergone many developments since oil was discovered in the region. The first big find was in 1908, and this marked a major change for locals as the ruling families became wealthier while attracting foreign investors (The Economist). Oil is an important commodity considering that it has continued to be used globally over the years. However, a major issue that is now facing the oil exporters is the price. Recently, there have been calls to change from non-renewable to renewable energy sources. I believe this is a good option to reduce global warming, but the changes also mean that the oil producers have to consider reducing the price to remain an attractive option to some users. COVID 19 has provided a hint on what should be expected as peak demand for oil had reduced considerably in 2020. Oil exporters are currently using their stockpiles of cash as the crisis continues and demand declines. It is difficult for cooperation to develop since every country is selfish.
