Amazon is one of the largest e-commerce platforms in the world and has gained a competitive edge over the years. Its business-to-business (B2B) marketplace has adopted a hybrid model that allows it to sell products from both third-party vendors and its own warehouse (Rainer et al., 2020). It has maintained its competitiveness by offering lower prices and large item lists that offer variety to its customers. This has made it difficult for small businesses to compete with Amazon’s B2B. However, Rainer et al. (2020) indicate that small businesses can offer personalized services to add value to their customers as well as venture into markets that Amazon is less likely to venture into. Other strategies that small businesses can use to compete with Amazon include:
1 Incorporation of both offline and online selling channels to give customers the option to either visit the physical store or shop online. According to Gavrila and Ancillo (2021), this strategy creates a hybrid online-offline shopping experience that cannot be offered by e-commerce giants such as Amazon. Small businesses can benefit from both the offline and online worlds of business.
