Q. Even though, the patient has no no prior cardiac history this is cardiogenic shock, and the assessment should focus on whether the there is risk of myocardial infarction being elevated. The clinical signs to look out for include hypoperfusion and low blood pressure. Sole, Klein, & Moseley (2013) highlight that assessing the cardiac output, cardiac dynamics and stroke volume should be considered for patients who suffer cardiogenic shock. b) A 47 yo man being given contrast media during a diagnostic procedure
Contrast media during a diagnostic procedure may trigger allergic response and this is especially when there is allergic history. Skin testing should be prioritized when evaluating the risk of allergy, and while initial exposure to antigen is not harmful subsequent exposure triggers anaphylactic reaction (Sole, Klein, & Moseley (2013). The patient is likely to suffer anaphylactic shock, with symptoms like decreased blood pressure hypovolemia caused by vasodilation, and anaphylaxis that affects the respiratory system, the skin and gastrointestinal system
c) A 17 yo adolescent with a cervical spine injury after a diving accident
Additional assessment would focus on the risk of secondary cord injury, dislocation injury, ruptured blood vessels neurological damage and inflammatory changes. The patient evaluation should also consider hypotension as blood pressure decreases when there are cervical injuries including when there is blood loss for the patient expreincing neurogenic shock
