Assessment centers are a good selection approach because they comprehensively assess the applicant's skills, abilities, and potential (Volante et al., 2019). In an assessment center, applicants undertake a series of tasks and activities that simulate the job they are applying for to assess their competencies. Assessment centers usually include job-related problem-solving, decision-making, and simulations of the job's responsibilities. The pre-employment tests discussed in the case are a form of an assessment center. The key difference is that they are conducted using software and are essentially virtual assessment centers.
By using virtual simulations, employers can assess candidates' ability to make decisions, solve problems, and handle pressure in a virtual environment similar to the work setting.
