Rebel Casino's General Manager (GM), Anton Frederick, and his management team did excellent work of helping the business survive the difficult economic time. As he was seated in his office, Frederick thought about what he would do to save the company from damaging its reputation, which it had developed over the years. The decision to outsource the management of its restaurants appeared to make the firm sink into more problems further. Rebel Casino had outsourced its restaurants since it was difficult for the firm to improve its property due to its revenues. In particular, the restaurants posted an annual operating loss of $3 million (Lucas and Kilby 48). However, after outsourcing the restaurants, customer complaints about the atmosphere, services offered, and food quality increased to an alarming level. Therefore, Frederick must decide whether to continue outsourcing Rebel Casino's restaurants and probably damage its reputation or manage them in-house.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
* An outstanding team of executives – Frederick was surrounded by a talented group of executives who helped Rebel Casino survive turbulent economic conditions.
* Availability of tangible resources – Nevada Gaming Corporation (NGC), which is the company that owned Rebel Casino, had enough land for expansion of the facility, and the company was planning to do it after repaying its existing debt.
Weaknesses
* Outsourcing restaurants – Although Rebel Casino was not able to raise funds to facilitate the improvement and expansion of its property, outsourcing restaurants was a bad idea. Fred Bryan, the chief executive officer (CEO), emphasized high-quality restaurant services, excellent and affordable food, and atmosphere to attract and keep many casino customers (Lucas and Kilby 49).
* High existing debt – Despite the availability of land for expansion, Rebel Casino was in debt and would not have secured a loan from the financial institutions.
