1. Introduction
A well-thought-out marketing plan will contain both the foundational mission statement and supporting objectives. The purpose of the mission statement is to express the business’s overarching vision—what is its purpose and what are its goals? Objectives should outline the measurable and attainable subsets of the mission.
Why This Matters: A well-written mission statement serves individuals and businesses as a foundation for their overall business vision and strategy. When companies reorganize or go through some type of strategic planning, the mission statement provides the positive vision. Objectives outline general steps or goals for achieving, monitoring, and outlining the mission. This process helps the business establish its “why” for starting/changing its business and provide the navigational compass for major business decisions.
Your Task: In addition to your assigned reading on mission statements and objectives, review the following sample case. As you review all the materials, consider the construction of the mission statement and how the objectives relate to accomplishing the mission. After reviewing the sample case, review the practice case as preparation for generating your own mission statement and objectives. Prepare at least three to five bullet points that outline the objectives toward a successful mission of your business.

Mission
The mission is an essential piece of every business. It defines the vision of why the business exists and how it serves or inspires customers. A strong mission statement becomes the foundation for decisions and core values and a compass of sorts for leading the business in the right directions. It is a tool for guiding the customer service and staff expectations as well. When a business is starting out or going through change, defining a mission statement is a critical step.
A company’s mission statement and objectives should feel symbiotic. The mission is broad and needs objectives to measure achievement; while the objectives are directionless without the vision of the mission. The mission statement may also serve as a guide for whom the business serves and how it serves them.
Objective
To monitor and evaluate a mission statement, it is essential to incorporate objectives. These objectives are like goals that outline the connection between the mission and the operational aspects of the business with measurable and actionable steps. The outcome of the objectives will help measure the business’s effectiveness in living up to the mission statement.
3. Practice Case Mission and Objectives

Healthy Happy Homes
After two decades of real estate investing, Healthy Happy Homes’ owner wanted to combine two personal passions: real estate and living a quality, healthy life.
