Scenario 1:
Student A (Randi is shy and below grade level in reading). One of the most applicable theories in Randi’s case is the socio-cultural concept of learning. It is a theory of learning that involves identifying meaningful daily social or cultural experiences as the focal aspect in enhancing a child's knowledge and equally making them understand, also altering their behavior (Jose, Patrick & Moseley, 2017). Besides, Randi needs social support. It would be imperative to encourage her each time she begins to demonstrate such shyness. Considering that Randi is a shy child in class, Randi needs a change in her behavior as the first approach to enable learning, positively impacting her socio-cultural setup. Her shyness may mean that she is afraid; the learner cannot quickly learn when she is scared. For Randi to learn effectively, she needs a non-threatening atmosphere to experience and do experimental analysis freely.
Another essential learning philosophy is the cognitive-developmental aspect of learning; it encourages the formation of mental structures (Jose, Patrick & Moseley, 2017). Through cognitive ideas, Randi can begin learning within her mind due to psychological processing as a piece of information is received. I can efficiently use an information processing instruction to improve her analytic skills to help her learn and reason distinctly. For instance, Randi is a struggling reader with a performance below the grade level of reading; thus, information processing with multisensory education is appropriate for her case. A teacher can help Randi to read better by using her fingers to point out a sound in a specific word. Also, a comprehensive strategy each time can help her understand or grasp linguistic knowledge.
Moreover, modeling as a strategy is vital for Randi's cognitive development. Since she is shy, she might not learn by just being told what Randi expected. Thus, Mrs Merell can apply the idea of "I do, we do, you do" to model Randi's linguistic skills, or a one-on-one strategy can help.
Student B: (Carl likes playing in class). Since Carl enjoys playing in class, the socio-cultural aspect will have much influence on his behavior. As I use the idea, I intend to reinforce responses to Carl rather than using punishment (Clark, 2018). The intention is to create an association between stimulus and reactions; the required answer that I expect from Carl is attentiveness related to cognitive development. He can concentrate like his fellow apprentices while he is in class. Considering that he has a reading level within a grade level and can draw anime images, he can learn and improve his grades as fast as probable. The socio-cultural learning concept is also imperative in modeling exemplary behavior and enhancing language development. It can help me show Carl how I would want him to change his playing habits and concentrate while in class. Besides, the class norms will ultimately change Carl’s behavior.
