The Ministry of Education identifies the defined courses for grades 9 to 12 in publicly funded secondary schools in the province of Ontario. The time covered is September 5, 2017 - September 5, 2017, and the data was first made available on April 4, 2014. Section B: Exploring the Data Set  The data set includes information on the course code, course description grade and pathway or destination for Grade 9 - 12 levels. The course code is text and numeric, the course description is text, while the pathway/ destination are text and numeric. The information on the course pathways is essential to determine the choices that allow the students to reach their goals based on the subject cluster. Users would find the information useful to understand the Ontario Curriculum Grades 9 to 12 and prerequisites (Data catalogue, 2018).  To support graduation requirements the ministry has indicated the course requirements and routes to achieve this, but there is no information on how combination of the core courses and electives affect career choice.  There is a need to emphasize which courses broaden knowledge and skills as this affects how they are able to meet their post-secondary goals. Section C: Reflection on the Data Set   There have been numerous suggestions on how best to integrate interests and help prepare for the post-secondary goals in the curriculum, where the suggested destination and a route help plan for the future.  The data set is useful to evaluate the study skills required and the routes to choosing courses that students are interested in. Ideally, students should attain employable skills, and since they have different interests, talents and abilities, choosing the right path can make a big difference in their future careers.   The students benefit the most when they make course choices, but need to be well informed about the alternatives, and especially when they develop various skills.The course types pathways are: University/College Preparation, Workplace Preparation, Special Education Non-credit Course (all levels), academic, applied, transfer and open (Data catalogue, 2018). The categories are essential to identify what is available and makes it easier to achieve expectations for specific course types and entry to a higher grade, and there is flexibility in choosing the subject areas. Data set B- OSAP average repayable debt Section A: Data Set Details The data set is “Average OSAP debt-Average debt of Ontario Student Assistance Program recipients, by postsecondary sector”. The data is in xlsx format the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format for Microsoft 2007 and beyond. The data covers the period April 1, 2003 - March 31, 2013, and is updated annually. The data set was added to the Open Data portal on April 25, 2014.
