Rebecca Steve is a 7-year-old beautiful girl. She studies in the 1st grade. Previously, she attended a private school in a church-based-setting, and Rebecca’s overall performance was not as good as her parents expected to be. She has had difficulty with basic phonetics, such as blending, decoding words, diphthongs and digraphs. Because of these problems, Rebecca Steve feels bad and sometimes she has to struggle with writing and reading. According to the PALS testing, Rebecca Steve’s word recognition ability is below the average. She is unable to meet benchmark with blends and is not good at oral reading. Compared to the previous few weeks, Rebecca Steve has made some progress but she has still not reached the level where she can be called a student who is good at reading and writing. It looks like she is unable to get excellent grades at this port. Currently, Rebecca Steve is working with a teacher at her daycare center. The name of the teacher is Mrs. Nancy, and Rebecca Steve visits her right after school. In her class, Rebecca Steve has many good friends. Rebecca Steve was tested using Interest Inventory, Form A. During this test, she was encouraged to listen to me carefully and was required to answer some of the basic questions according to her knowledge. For every second question, Rebecca Steve’s answer was “I don’t know.” When I asked about her interest in comic books, she said: “What is that.” Then I explained her briefly and she said “O my God.” During the conversation, I observed several behavioral changes. Rebecca Steve looked nervous when I asked about her siblings and best friends. She got a little angry when I asked her to wear clean outfits regularly, saying that “I am sorry I don’t need any dictation about it since I wear what I love the most.” I handled her carefully, and then I encouraged her to listen to what I was going to play. Rebecca Steve listened to it carefully, and when she did not understand something, she asked me to repeat it. I also asked her to write something on paper.
The results revealed that Rebecca Steve was unable to answer most of the questions correctly. She used punctuation at the end of her sentences and showed an interest in the music I played for her.
