The roles and responsibilities of a classroom teacher and a paraeducator are important to understand, address, and respect to maintain a positive and effective classroom environment.In this field experience, you will collaborate with your mentor to observe co-teaching instruction so that you can see the importance of teamwork in action.
Allocate 2 hours in the field to support this field experience in an inclusive K-12 classroom.
In your placement, collaborate with your mentor to observe two of the six co-teaching models. Identify and rationalize the model being used in the classroom. Reflect on the lesson being taught, instructional strategies, and the students being instructed.
Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.
Upon completing your observations and collaborations, reflect on the following in 250-500 words:
Do you feel the co-teaching model was successful for the lesson? If yes, explain. If not, which model do you feel would be more appropriate to meet the needs of the students?
Were all students actively participating and receiving support during instruction? If yes, explain. If not, why do you think students were not participating or engaging? Could additional support be added?
Do you feel there was clear collaboration and communication between the teachers and/or paraeducator during instruction? If yes, explain. If not, what concerns or inconsistencies with instruction did you notice?
Why is it important for the teacher and paraeducator to be in sync when utilizing co-teaching methods?

The two hours of field experience I spent in the inclusive K-12 classroom were both exciting and enlightening. During my first hour, I observed the teacher and her co-teacher using the alternative teaching model. In this technique, the teacher and co-teacher arrange the class into two groups, each teaching a different lesson to each group. This method allows for differentiated instruction, as each student can receive instruction tailored to their needs (Irianto et al., 2020). During the second hour, I observed the teacher and co-teacher using the parallel teaching technique. In this model, the instructor and their partner teach the same lesson to the whole class. However, each provides different activities and instructional techniques to ensure the students understand the material.
The above approach allows learners to receive multiple perspectives on the same lesson, increasing their understanding of the material. During both observations, I noted the effectiveness of the strategies used to engage students and allow them to understand the material better. The lessons were well planned, and the teachers used a variety of strategies, such as visual aids, manipulatives, and hands-on activities, to ensure students could retain the information. Additionally, the instructors could use the co-teaching model to differentiate instruction, as learners could receive instruction tailored to their needs.
I observed that all students were actively participating and receiving support during instruction. The teachers were attentive to the needs of the students and were constantly providing individualized feedback and support. This effort allowed all learners to feel comfortable and engaged in the lesson.
