Inclusion and Mainstreaming
Inclusion is defined as transferring children who were earlier learning in special classes or schools to the schools and classes that are general (Walls, 2007). This implies that in inclusion, children who have disabilities are taught all academic periods and all periods that are nonacademic in the classrooms that offer general education (Walls, 2007). Mainstreaming on the other hand is integrating the disabled children into the classrooms that offer general education during periods that are nonacademic (Walls, 2007).
Inclusions and mainstreaming are therefore two academic programs that are different meant for students on Individualized Education Program (IEP) (differencebetween.net, 2015). The two terms are seen as similar and are oftenly used interchangeably. There are however some major elements that make the two terms differently. In inclusion, the IEP student is required to go to the regular classrooms for the purpose of their own advantage and not for the sake of revealing any improvement.
