Options in the Job Market
I hold an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) as a nurse practitioner. The ADN prepares nurse learners for positions such as the registered nurse. The course stands as a minimal requirement for nurse scholars to achieve careers such as licensed practical nurses. Pursuing and excelling in an ADN places one within the opportunity of several career opportunities. A nurse with an ADN can effectively work with various patients, including men and women, adolescents, and children. The short program ensures that nurses are equipped with the skills necessary to provide high-quality health care. The responsibilities of nurses with an ADN include conducting patient assessments, diagnosis, and offering interventions in the form of treatments and a positive living approach (Perez et al., 2018). Other roles include giving nursing care to the admitted patients, proficiently operating all equipment used in patient care, and showing high-level collaboration and teamwork with the other health care professionals. Therefore, nurses with an ADN can secure jobs in various facilities, including hospitals, home-based patient care, colleges, residential care platforms, and professional institutes.
IOM Recommendations
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommended that nursing graduates with a baccalaureate should move and elevate from fifty percent to eighty percent by 2020 (Spetz, 2018). The recommendation poses as a steer to all nurses so that they can pursue and further their nursing education. A nurse who is educated bears knowledge and skills necessary for the provision of quality and effective health care. The recommendation motivates me as I view myself having attained a degree by 2023. Having a baccalaureate degree will give me a competitive advantage as I will be in a position to fit into the job market. The IOM has been working to make the nursing staff diverse so that they can effectively attend to the existing diverse population (Perez et al., 2018). The moves stand as a critical and well-thought-out move since nurses are gaining the ability to treat all kinds of people from different ethnic groups. The move has been shown to reduce complex language barriers and discrimination issues.
The increase in the number of nurses with a baccalaureate degree has shown massive improvements in healthcare delivery and the general advancement of the healthcare system. Nurses who are degree holders are now able to keep up with the rising demands in health care and improve the leadership in healthcare facilities (Spetz, 2018). Attaining a baccalaureate degree has made it possible for nurses to attain power and financial stability. Having a degree enables a nurse to add up on the information and knowledge she has, which they can utilize in research and improve patients' lives. Having the degree also predisposes nurses to several job opportunities in different fields such as laboratories, field research exercises, leadership positions in hospitals, and insurance entities. The IOM has vowed to assist nurses in pursuing the doctorate degree by providing funds and establishi...
