EMS manager: The first thing that you should do as an EMS manager is to ensure you are updated on the current techniques and procedures of dealing with emergency cases. This ensures that you guide your employees on the best approaches to take during emergencies such as accidents
Secondly, you should ensure that all your employees are familiar with all the tools and facilities that enable them do their work effectively. Allow your employees to exercise freedom while doing their work.
Thirdly, you should ensure that you are well funded to carry out emergency services well. Paramedics require well-equipped employees. You can run into difficulties in helping casualties if you are not well equipped.Question: If you want to change things in EMS, what would you change?EMS manager: I would ensure that facilities are change on yearly basis in all EMS stations. This change would take place annually in which all first aid facilities will have to be replaced.
Secondly, I will ensure that health personnel are well trained and annual training is done to them to ensure they are updated on the techniques of dealing with emergencies. I will also ensure that every EMS station is also equipped with an ambulance.Question: What is the most difficult decision you have had to make in the last 12 months?EMS manager: There was an accident that had occurred in a nearby road and the nurses were well aware of the situation. This is because they were informed that a young man had been hit by a running car and was bleeding profusely. The nurses were reluctant to provide first aid to him and I was very upset. I did not know what to do but to fire them.
