Describe the historical event that you selected. Why is this event significant?
Studying apartheid in South Africa is quite relevant. One of the main reasons for this is that it helps showcase what happens when people decide to use diversity as a weapon. In South Africa, diversity was used to draw a line between people instead of being reinforced so that it could help enhance or grow the country. Instead of building a society that focused on social cohesion, the all-white government decided to encourage discrimination of non-white ethnicities. Enacting these ethnic barriers led to a dysfunctional society that was marred with the struggle for equality. So, the South African case is one that ought to remind the world of the evil that is grounded in racism and discrimination.
