A child undergoes various stages of development right away from the time of conception to the time of delivery, and this continues all through as the infant grows and socialize with the people around them. As usual, every stage at the time of development of every child is very significant in shaping the entire lifetime of the child. In this regard, social-emotional development includes the child’s involvement, countenance emotion management, including the ability to found and control one’s comportment and appreciating interactive course. The child’s general surrounding which goes as far as the people, objects and all the environmental elements contribute in this significant stage of an infant, which is mostly constituted by active learning both verbally and non-verbally. In this paper, the stages of development of a child and including their impacts and how they are influenced are explored.
In emotional development, when a child has an ability to identify and appreciate his or her own feelings, as well as take control of sturdy emotions and express such emotions positively to correctly understand the emotional status of others is a major milestone in emotional development. The ability to accurately understand the emotional conditions of others and to nurture empathy for others, and to create and maintain relationships as well as regulating one’s own behavior are also exhibits of emotional development (Shonkoff & Richmond, 2009). Children encounter, show, and perceive emotions before they actually comprehend them. Thus, to be conversant with them, they assume some skills with family, friends, teachers and the community and in the process, they gain competency in social life.
A child requires healthy development, and this entails a lot. While proper nutrition, exercise and enough sleep are requirements for healthy infant development, it is also very significant to provide a child with an environment that provides them with sufficient emotional, social and educational needs as much as they may need. The environment should meet all these requirements in the correct proportions. Parents and guardians are dutybound in the child’s development stages and must be able to ensure the child are always happy, responding to their children in predictable ways, show warmth and sensitivity, share books and talk with them to help them nurture academic skills and use the most appropriate discipline without being harsh and harmful.
Parents are also supposed to understand the fact that a child’s development is a process and appreciate the progress their children make at every stage of the three stages of the life of a child, which barely includes the early childhood stage, middle childhood and adolescence stage. This kind of appreciation would provide the most suitable ambiance for the growth and development of the child into a reasonable adult.
