THE NEGLECT OF THE ELDERLY Name Institution affiliation Course Date of Submission The Neglect of the Elderly Even though U.S. citizens pride themselves as having one of the most advanced social reform policies in the world, a social issue that has come to grab the attention of social activists and social reformers alike is the blatant neglect of the elderly in the society. The issue is so important that it touches on almost every single citizen in the nation. No one can claim not to have an elderly person in their family or friend`s family or in the neighborhood altogether. As we grow up in society today, we are taught on how to respect our elders and as we mature we tend to have the idea of who we are and where we are headed to so neglecting the elderly is nothing out of naivety but blatant ignorance and carelessness. Even though a good number of senior citizens have can access pretty much comfortable health care from the comport of their homes from their own families, there is a large number out there who are left without anyone to care for them and are left to languish in pain and poverty alone or with little help. Let us keep in mind that these elderly men and women are who have made America what it is today and that neglecting them is like having no gratitude to them ( Gordon, et al., 2001). Furthermore, a good number of them cannot work, move, or sanitize on their own due to their frail-self. To shed more light onto this issue we can define the term "neglect of the elderly". In this case we are alluding to the fact that a senior citizen is not able to effectively feed, drink clean water, get shelter, administer medicine, secure themselves, and other key essentials to life just because the caregiver assigned to him or her is absent or not adequate purely out of intentional carelessness or absconding of duty (Ort...
