John Wiley & Sons, Inc is a global publishing company that coaches counselors who are mandated to recruit students pursuing higher education. The organization plunged in inter-office conflicts between two co-worker groups. It resulted from miscommunication leading to a misunderstanding between the two sides (Singleton et al., 2011). One of them claimed that his colleague was not a team player since he didn’t care about their team. The other employee claimed that he didn’t understand in the first place why there was a conflict and accused the other of always picking an argument with him.
Hinkley, who was the manager at then met each of them separately to understand the source and nature of the conflict. In a bid to arrive at a solution, she organized weekly team-building exercises and scheduled meetings where the team members could share their experiences and preferred means of communication. After some weeks, a cordial relation between the two started to manifest. The manager’s approach was successful since the tension between the co-workers softened and began to relate well.
