Training Methods for Improving Performance

Essay Instructions:

GEL-7.02: Apply ethical reasoning to ethical issues within your field of study.
Introduction: Using the appropriate training and development methods can have significant effects on employee performance and the success or failure of a company. Similarly, ethics also can impact how employees and the company are perceived, which can ultimately affect the success of the organization.
Read the scenario and address the checklist items regarding employee training, development, and ethics.
Scenario: The technology company you work for has had difficulties resulting from expert employees leaving the company after only 6 months to a year of employment. This turnover has caused client software projects to not be completed as scheduled. The CEO has turned to you as the HR director to find out what is wrong and to recommend a remedy. You do some initial investigations only to find that the salaried, full-time employees at this level of expertise are working 60 hours a week or more on a regular basis. You are concerned not only for the business implications of this attrition problem but the ethical implications.
Checklist:
* Describe the company’s problem in your own words from a business and ethical perspective.
* Choosing one of the ethical approaches (https://kapextmediassl-a(dot)akamaihd(dot)net/business/Media/MT203M4/MT203M4_2103C/Ethical_Approaches/story.html), describe what ethical approach you would use for the development of these employees and explain why.
* Describe the training and development methods you would use to improve employee morale, motivation, and to reduce attrition. Include two specific examples that improve employee morale, motivation, and reduce attrition.

Training Methods for improving Performance
Given the scenario in the case study, the technology company experiences several problems that make it increasingly difficult for it to maintain its employees and register good performance. The company exposes its workers to unfriendly and strenuous working conditions from an ethical perspective. Considering that the company demands staff to work for 60 or more hours of work every week, workers at the organization are bound to develop burnout, thus making it increasingly difficult to perform optimally. Secondly, the long working hours make it difficult for employees to have a social life, thus causing stress and anxiety, which could be blamed for the high turnover rate (Collewet & Sauermann, 2017). From a business perspective, working long hours could be counterproductive. Unfortunately, it could lead to increased inefficiency among employees. Additionally, it could demoralize employees and make them want to seek other employment options as they strive to explore their full potential. Fortunately, the technology company can leverage act utilitarianism to address its employee turnover problem and hopefully register higher productivity and better business performance.
Act utilitarianism is one of the most prominent ethical approaches that dictates human actions. Ideally, this ethical approach defines moral uprightness regarding people's actions and how such actions impact their peers. Act utilitarianism observes that individuals' actions are morally right only if they produce the best possible outcomes (Marseille & Kahn, 2019). That said, tasked with addressing the technology company's challenges, I would leverage act utilitarianism for several reasons. First, this ethical approach would allow me to engage closely with top organizational leaders and make them see the need to provide employees with a conducive working environment. For instance, it would allow me to engage with top organizational leadership as I strive to l...
