Introduction
Climate change is the shift in weather patterns over a period of time on the normal or prior climate system. Over the past few years the earth has experienced a considerable shift in the climatic systems across most parts of the world. It can be attributed to various factors based on human activities. In this document I have used an article titled “The Climate Issue” to discuss and analyze some key factors that go with climate change and how the world has responded to the shift.
Causes of climate change
The climate a place experience is motivated by some factors, e.g. forests and natural resources that are around there. Human activities that involve using such resources is a great cause of climate change. Below is an analysis of human activities that have led to change in climate changes.
* Rampant industrialization
Industrialization is the process of setting up manufacturing and processing industries which have been a trend that has been on the rise over the last years. It results in the release of harmful chemicals and gases into the environment. Carbon dioxide (CO2) for example, is a gas that is released in large quantities from plants (Agre et al. 2017). The gas has great detrimental effects on the atmosphere and progressive release results to climate change.
* Urbanization
Urbanization is the continued development of cities and large urban areas which are home to businesses and homes. It leads to acts such as deforestation so as to create more spaces for the construction of houses and other infrastructure. It is acts such as deforestation that lead to climate change.
* The exploitation of natural resources
Natural resources such as forests, rivers and lakes have been exploited for economic reasons. E.g. cutting down trees for timber etc. (Bulkeley et al. 2015). Such trends have motivated overexploitation of such resources which has resulted in climate change.
Effects of climate change
* Unpredictable weather changes
Climate change due to some of the cause named above has led to unpredictable weather changes. Extreme rains which result in floods and lack of rains which result in famine are increasing occurrences in the today world. It has become hard to predict weather changes since the normal patterns of weather changes and seasons are no longer happening but rather abrupt changes.
* Extinction of some animal species
Climate change has endangered some species, especially those, require specific climates to survive. An example is the polar bear which survives in extremely cold climates specifically in snowy places. Climate changes have led to the melting of such ice which has resulted in the extinction of such species.
* The threat to human life
Climate change has greatly threatened human life in various measures (Bulkeley et al. 2015). Extreme weather has destroyed infrastructures key for human survival. It has also brought challenges like lack of inadequate food and health hazards.
