Despite Coach Preczewski (Coach P) using multiple variables, such as rowing technique, strength, and conditioning, to choose the best rowers for the Varsity team, it was defeated during practice and race by the Junior Varsity team. The primary reason that contributed to the Varsity team losing to the Junior Varsity was the lack of teamwork. In particular, Coach P spent more time choosing the top eight rowers for the Varsity boat. For instance, the Varsity boat competed with the Junior Varsity boat numerous times so that Coach P could select the best rowers’ combination. Coach P evaluated the rowers’ technique, strength, ergometer score, and endurance (Snook & Polzer, 2004). However, despite him selecting the top eight rowers for the Varsity team, they were defeated by the Junior Varsity boat. The boat members of the Varsity team individually criticized each other’s performance and were angry with each other. On the contrary, the Junior Varsity members were united and worked as a team. They accepted a win or defeat as a team and did not blame each other.
