Prenatal Testing
Prenatal testing is a complex process involving screening and diagnostic tests that are carried out on pregnant women to obtain important information about the baby (Kitchen & Jack 2019). The principal aim of the tests is to ascertain whether the unborn child is likely or less likely to have any genetic defects. The process involves DNA screening, special-type of ultrasound and blood test. Two major types of prenatal tests are screening and diagnostic tests. Screening tests are carried out to check on any genetic disorders, and the test utilizes blood samples and screening of cell-free DNA samples from the parents (Kitchen & Jack 2019). On the other hand, diagnostic tests are carried out to indicate a possible problem arising from the age of the mother, familial history and existence of a medical condition with an account. The conditions may predispose the baby with the same hereditary defects, and the parents may consider various remedies of their choice.
