8-1 Why is it important to consider the first session the beginning of discharge planning? Be sure to include ethical considerations and involvement of the client.

According to her opinion, the first session is inevitable in the discharge planning. It defines a clear objective of the entire discharge planning process. She added that it is prudent to begin the discharge planning process with the end in mind and work toward objectives (White, 2013). This entails keeping in mind that goals can be amended to reflect new development in the process while protecting the integrity of the counselor-client process.

The first session of the therapy is extremely imperative and should be the beginning of the discharge planning. The therapist should be clear with the client that the treatment will have an end date, though it may take them longer than others to achieve, it will end (Tryon, 2013). The therapist should inform the client from the beginning on when the client is expected to approach certain goals and the immediate steps to be undertaken after that.
