Are there any parts of Machiavelli's works that surprised you?
People may be repulsed by Machiavelli's "The Prince" because it reveals his ideal ruler to be harsh, manipulative, and self-serving. However, there appears to be an ethical aspect to Machiavelli's work. And I believe that everyone will be surprised by this. Machiavelli, for example, mentioned previously in Chapter 19 that Roman emperors tended to gratify and acquire the faith of their warriors. It's because, throughout the Roman Empire, soldiers had a significant role in determining who would be the next emperor. Except for the Turkish and Egyptian sultans, he subsequently acknowledged that the rulers of his day, except the Turkish and Egyptian sultans, placed greater emphasis on meeting the needs of their subjects. It is because people are powerful.
Are There Any Parts That You Find Contradictory?
The famous question in The Prince, "Is it better to be loved than feared or to be feared than loved?" may be found in Chapter 17. And he said that while it is desirable to have both when a monarch must choose, he should choose to be feared. He also emphasized that a ruler should be wary of men's destructive tendencies.
