More structured and factory-based workplaces were replacing the older traditions of work. Due to the vibrant expansion in the industrial sector in the U.S, the traditional ways of working were disrupted. This was as a result of new technologies and increased immigrants with a high demand for labor (Stearns, 2018). The technological advances were also experienced disrupting the old traditions of work. However, the society did not like the turnover because they believed that the industrial revolution brought about child labor since young children were being employed in these industries. They also argued the industrial revolution tampered with their leisure time since people employed in the industries were expected to work for long hours.
Regarding this, the people of American society rioted in pursuit of maintaining the older traditions of work explained in detail below. First and foremost, they coordinated strikes in which they demonstrated against their bosses were being overworked and at the same time, underpaid. This was achieved through several processions on the road with banners written "'Down with tyranny,' 'We are not slaves,' 'No sympathy with the rich,' 'Our bosses grind us,' 'We work, they ride.'" The peaceful demonstrations were done to reach out to their bosses that they should either increase the salary or reduce the amount of work assigned to them and the working hours. Secondly, the American society employed these industries held mass meetings at the liberty halls, where they strategized on ways of addressing the transformation from the older traditions to the new styles of working due to the industrial revolution. The mass meetings held at the Liberty Hall were also a strategy of addressing the harassments of women in the workplaces by the bosses. This was based on the goal of highlighting equality since men were considered superior during the time of the industrial revolution. They also sought to address the issue of men being paid higher salaries than women even though they had the same amount of labor and that they were under the same working environment.
The creation of craft unions to present their cries and pledges of maintaining the older traditions of work as a consistent effort and push for political support was the third way. At the Liberty Halls, the members of the craft union would present these claims before the targeted personnel was also elected. The American Society also held demonstrations to protest against the working relationship between boys and girls employed in the same company. The older traditions of work did not allow free mingling of girls and boys during work. Girls were allocated different locations of work, and the boys a different location as well. The Americans felt that immorality would be promoted through the intermingling of girls and boys since they worked under no supervision. This was made possible through the printing of the above rules that boys and girls should not work together and posted in the respective factories where these girls and boys worked.
