Racial discrimination has an old history in the United States of America, causing emotional, mental and physical pain to Negros. Several people have been in protest against this act by governments, the latest being the “black lives matter” campaign currently taken across the world. Dr. Martin Luther King communicated his ideas and arguments concerning racism through writings. Every individual’s life matters, and in events to deal with human beings, no one is better than the other. For a fact, racism degraded Negros’ self-esteem, exposed a lack of economic development and poor societal coordination. Dr. Martin Luther King was at the forefront of fighting racism by discussing with leaders issues of racism affecting the Negros. The letter indicates that Dr. Martin Luther King condemned racism by all measures possible. Unjust laws have as well caused much pain to individuals in several courts for lack of bold person to represent and talk on their behalf.
Selfish leaders do not put into consideration peoples’ needs (Hidayah, 2018). Checking the first actions they are about to take, whether they will benefit or not, is their priority. Dr. Luther depicts the time he is living in by calling on leaders of Birmingham Economic Community to do away with stores that had humiliating racial signs. Having successfully negotiated with a sure promise, the leaders disobeyed the promise. This time, Dr. Luther and his group thought it would be better if they caused an economic-withdrawal program during the Easter season hence bringing about needed change. Fenny (2017), indicated that using force to achieve change is highly evident, portraying the point that commoners’ ideas are under-considered in situations of dictatorship. Leaders during that time only focused on what could benefit their economic desires forgetting that the public was undergoing a lot of tumultuous pressure. The letter indicates that every individual is concerned about what revolves around them and dismissing the fact that other individuals do exist.
The advocacy for non-violent activities to air out their grievances as a community was a key pillar to Luther. He felt that the system needed a trigger for leaders to learn of the sense communicated to them. Dr. Luther equated his activities with those of Socrates when he mentioned that, constructive and non-violent tension is respectable for significant growth.
