It is not uncommon for staff to feel unutilized when they have been in the work place for years. This could be highly attributed to the fact that the top seats are very competitive and reserved for a few. Job security thus becomes a concern to managers who are in their late years. The fact that there are no expected advancements creates even bigger problems. Most companies however promote young and ambitious employees who have gained technical and global experience earlier in life. Basing the recommendation on what has been highlighted on the Wall Street Journal, there are ways that can retain such employees who may move in different areas when confronted with a chance to.
Flexibility
Staffs who have worked under a particular area for a long time are not necessarily good on one thing only. This is a misconception that is continually used to classify. They are usually thought to be practically clueless on works that falls beyond what they do. However, they come to a point in their career when they can easily venture into other things and give exemplary results. Hence, the need to motivate employees by making lateral moves that broaden their experiences.
Skill utilization
Employees who are conversant with their job may want to work outside their specific job description.
