Overview
It is normal for a business to get to a certain point where its sales flatten. This statement is an indication of several things. One, it could indicate that sales are stalling. This is a dangerous sign if it ever happens to be noticed. The other indication would be that an organization’s popularity is going down. Third, it could indicate that a business has reached its pinnacle of sales within a particular market. In the current organization, the latter indication applies because the business has not been making losses, albeit the sales curve flattening. The above means that there is a need to expand beyond the current market.
The country selected for expansion is Canada. Canada has been selected because baseball is quite popular in the country. An article by Baseball Canada (2016) offers details on how the sport has been on an upward trajectory in the recent past. So, Canada happens to offer a much easier environment for the organization to grow its popularity and brand.
Section One: Drivers for Global Entry
Global expansion is one way for an organization to enhance its reach and grow its profitability. For this organization, global expansion could be a potential means for revenue increment. This is a possibility because of the expansion of the organization’s customer base. Entering Canada, a market with a moderate level of popularity could indeed lead to more profits for the organization. Another purpose of global expansion is to gain a competitive advantage over competitors. Every sector has its own competitors who can make business and growing one’s profitability quite difficult. However, expanding to new markets can be a mark of differentiation that can gift the organization an edge over its competitors. Further, it is possible to diversify and consider new products that could work and enhance the organization’s portfolio in the new market. According to Nucleus (2020), diversification is crucial because it can help an organization protect its “bottom line against unforeseen events.” For example, if one market is not performing well relative to another, it is possible for the company to offset such a difference with gains from another market.
The impact that global business has on both business and society is quite huge. The most obvious business impact is the growth of the host nation’s economy. Every business that sets up shop in another country earns revenue for the said country. So, the Canadian economy will indeed benefit from the organization’s entry into its market. Another impact, according to Fitzgerald and Cormack (2007), is the intensification of certain conversations, including but not limited to environmental concerns. According to Evans and Siesfield (2014), other impacts include employment creation and enhancement of the local community through wealth creation.
There are different issues or factors to consider before entering a new market. One of them is the differing cultures between the old and new markets. Even though the U.S. and Canada are neighbors and share a lot of similarities, the two countries are qui...
