This assignment provides you with an opportunity to create a code of ethics for you and your family, as well as to explain the strategies and thought processes that went into developing the code. First, create an original code of ethics for your family by thinking about your family as an organization. In your code of ethics, please include the following:
- guiding principles,
- purpose of the code,
- core values,
- training and education (how will you train and educate others about the code?),
- definitions,
- who it covers,
- mission statement, and
- other pertinent elements you feel necessary to have a comprehensive code of ethics.
The next part of this assignment involves an evaluation, where you describe the thought process behind the code of ethics that you prepared. For the evaluation part of this assignment, draft an essay to include the following:
- Identify the key roles involved, those who have a vested interest in the ethical behavior that your code defines.
- Explain the strategies and thought processes that you used to formulate the code.
- Explain how you would strategically implement and communicate the code to others in the organization.
- Explain how you will monitor the practice of ethical decision making.
- Provided that laws exist and have been enacted for resolving conflict, why do we also need a code of ethics?
In the process of writing your code, you must research the topic of codes of ethics, and incorporate at least two articles, not older than five years. Your code and evaluation must be at least 1,000 words. Format the code as you like; however, be sure it is professional and legible. Format the evaluation part of the assignment by using APA Style. In light of the need to have the family following through a conscious code of conduct, the following code ethics is going to help all the members to develop a cohesive bond along the family lines. At the personal level it crucial to have code ethics that guides every other action and therefore outcomes of the same to make sure that there is minimal conflict with those that one interacts with (Aamft.org, 2016). The code of ethics in this case is going to be based on communication, respect, share goals, confidentiality, integrity, open mindedness and compassion (Jaffe, 2012). This code of ethics will be part of the guiding principles which will be used in the formulation solutions and decision making processes in the family.
Personal and family code of ethics
* All the members are required to be truthful in all communications.
* All members are required to be honest with the rest of the members such that none shall under any circumstances manipulate or mislead the others.
* All members are expected to uphold utmost respect and trust at all times regardless of the situation.
* Members are expected to keep all sensitive information confidential to avoid all chance of conflict.
* All members are expected to make ethical decisions at all times.
* Members are requested to always be accepting to others with a high level of accommodation.
* Members are also encouraged to practice altruism at all times, by supporting other members when in need (Jaffe, 2012).
* All members should practice kindness towards other members of the family at all times.
Guiding principle
All the member are unique in a number of ways and thus there is bound to be some differences arising from their interactions. However, in light of the code of ethics, members are expected to interact with one another in the highest form integrity and respect for one another. The guiding principle is based on the several pillars that include, effective communication, respect, shared goals, integrity, confidentiality, compassion and open mindedness (Aamft.org, 2016).
Purpose of the code
This is a code that is largely build the values of a strong family background. The main backdrop for the code is to make sure that the family is intertwined using the right attitudes and values at all times. By creating and implementing the code the family members are more likely to develop strong cohesion that are based on positive principles as a guide to their daily interactions (Jaffe, 2012). The code will form better communication channels, develop respect among the members, shore up integrity and develop cohesive bonds across all ages and for generations to come. This is bound to be a family legacy for ages to come, connecting the past, present and the future with a sustainable bond of virtues.
