Social responsibility when applied to businesses is when companies contribute to the welfare of society and/or the environment. Some companies do not practice social responsibility when it should be. Social responsibility can be done in a number of different ways and does not necessarily need to be done in one way.
Although it is not required for companies that have been established in the past and newly established corporations to make the switch of becoming socially responsible it may help them financially and appeal to more people. A study conducted on 2017 came to the conclusion that 87% of American customers would be willing to buy a product from a company due to its social responsibility (Elsey, 2018). Former Director of Community affairs for OfficeMax, James Epstien-Reeves, claims that an effective way to start being socially responsible is to make an effort to cut costs in places such as utilizing less packaging and/or less energy. Both of these examples would help both the corporation as well as the environment.
With that being said a number of enterprises have not taken on any form of social responsibility when it could really benefit them as well as the environment. There are many positive effects for a corporation that is socially responsible such as appealing to more customers as well as cutting costs.
