Control, Ideology, and Party of Zimbabwe
As of today, the current leadership of the country of Zimbabwe is President Robert Mugabe. For many of the powerful individuals and the organizations, both inside and outside of the country, Mugabe is regarded as an institution which has been in the position for ever since 1987, which was the first time when a black president was elected in the country. This control of Mugabe has not gone unopposed for every election period since 1987. Today, this opposition would be the parties which are formed by an alliance of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and former Vice President Joice Mujuru through a signed coalition in between them. Backing them up are two of the most dominant opposition parties and defectors from the ruling Zanu-PF. However, based on our latest analysis of the metadata on pre-election sentiments of the Zimbabweans, we could say that if rated from 1 to 5 (1 Very Likely, 5 Very unlikely), the likelihood for this shift in power would be 2 (likely).
Just as any potential shift in power in every nation, I believe that knowing this political power play as well as the possible effects of a sudden shift in power would be critical in determining our future advantages in terms of resource networks and anti-terrorist aims, which are both forged with the strong alliance that we have with the country. From this, I would make sure to make a careful analysis of their power play and how would a possible change in leadership and platforms would affect the current state of inter-dependency between both of our countries.
U.S-Zimbabwe Relations and Terrorism
The country of Zimbabwe has been one of the closest allies that the U.S. has on African Continent. While threats of terrorism are almost non-existent in the region, the current administration still place a great emphasis towards policies that would help prevent acts like these.
Major Ideological Differences of the Opposition Party
Even before conducting a more thorough analysis, reports have stated that the opposition party, which would be led by Tsvangirai, would promote a comprehensive democratization and transformation agenda, in contrast to the current leadership’s focus. More specifically, the opposition has stated that this platform is in response to the worsening economy as well as the heavy corruption that is prevalent in the country today. Nonetheless, our research on both the latent and the manifest goals of the opposition party suggested that there would be no significant changes in terms of their attitude towards terrorist groups and individuals.
