First, Russia invaded Ukraine to prevent them from joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO). Russian president, Vladimir Putin, believes that Ukraine is part of Russia geographically, culturally, and historically. Thus, his attack on Ukraine is to reclaim them and make sure they do not join NATO and remain a part of Russia.

The United States, through president Biden, offered protection to the NATO nations surrounding Russia by increasing the number of US troops.
