Stakeholder diversity is an important component that defines the successful design and implementation of policies and programs in community health. We engage with different stakeholders at our community health center as this process underscores their roles in informing quality improvement by incorporating varying viewpoints of the stakeholders beyond the conventional research team (Patil et al., 2021). By fostering collaboration between our stakeholders in community primary health care (PHC), we can strengthen diversity and develop people-centered service delivery that addresses various healthcare issues affecting individuals and populations (Warren et al., 2021). Identifying and understanding our stakeholders is critical in determining individuals or organizations affected or responsible for specific healthcare issues and guiding various programs or policies (Patil et al., 2021). At Sunshine Coalition of Community Health Centers (SCCHC), key stakeholders include patients, physician groups, community associations, the public, the state and local health departments, policymakers and legislators at Federal and state levels, advocacy groups, pharmaceutical organizations, and insurance companies who play various roles to ensure safety and quality care.
Key Stakeholders
* Patients
We recognize the role of patients as the major stakeholders in PHC. They are the single most important stakeholders concerning the learning healthcare system since they serve as donors of personal clinical data and beneficiaries of the knowledge gained from research or program (Lubbeke et al., 2019). Patients serve as a resource to research programs and policy formulation with the information they provide about various challenges they face in healthcare. Using data collected from patients can be invaluable in designing effective policies and programs that ultimately benefit the same population.
* Physicians
Physicians or doctors are the backbone of healthcare services and therefore play a critical role as informed experts in various PHC policies and programs to improve patient care (Panda & Mohapatra, 2021). For instance, physician groups such as the AQA Alliance, American Academy of Family Practitioners (AAFP), the American College of Physicians (ACP) are some of the important organizations that have made incredible contributions toward improving the health of populations in the United States (Gasper et al., 2008). Doctors serve to provide expert guides on clinical issues that affect patients. Insurance companies, the government can use this information, and the pharmaceutical industry to formulate proper interventions to improve care.
