The chosen megatrend – 'Digital Connectivity Between People and Things'
The global community has experienced various megatrends that vary from climate change to the rise of advanced technology. From advanced technology, these megatrends have influenced urbanization of future cities and digital connectivity. The study will focus on digital connectivity between people and things. The use of digital networks to connect persons, ideas and places has increased over time based on the advancement of technological capabilities. Digital connectivity has relied on technology and the internet to work efficiently.
Identification of a particular organization
I have identified Amazon as an organization that can be associated with the 'The digital connectivity between people and things'. Amazon provides shoppers with online services that have been facilitated by digital connectivity (Aboutamazon.com, 2020). Being the world's largest online market place, it has ventured into other connectivity ideas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital streaming.
The Next Big Thing (NBT) for Amazon and its importance
According to Aboutamazon.com (2020), Amazon has invested in several projects related to the changing technological, socio-economic, ethical, and political aspects. However, I propose that Amazon's Next Big Thing, according to Bezos is the use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles to ship goods to its clients (Lee, 2019). By using drones, the firm will save on fuel costs whereby there will be a reduction in the number of employees involved in the transportation of goods. The importance of drones in transportation will enhance Amazon’s coverage, efficiency, and flexibility. For instance, drones will increase the number of served customers since they can be programmed using the global positioning system. The drones will also be faster compared to manual transportation of goods since there will be no issues such as traffic or road accidents that will lead to delays in shipping. The use of drones will also enhance its competition strategy compared to other online retail companies where employees manually handle the transportation and supply of products to clients.
