#4 Influence Assignment Pitch Purpose: To Influence Platinum Ticket Format Required 5 minute video Extemporaneous Pitch or Promote and/or (fund)/Philanthropic Appeal Based on the readings from Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8 “Vision, Uncertainty, and Knowledge of Materials are inevitabilities that all artists must acknowledge and learn from: vision is always ahead of execution, knowledge of materials is your contact with reality, and uncertainty is a virtue.” “You make good work by (among other things) making lots of work that isn't very good, and gradually weeding out the parts that aren't good, the parts that aren't yours. It's called feedback, and it's the most direct route to learning about your own vision. It's also called doing your work. After all, someone has to do your work, and you're the closest person around.” “To the artist, all problems of art appear uniquely personal. Well, that's understandable enough, given that not many other activities routinely call one's basic self-worth into question.” All excerpts from: David Bayles; Ted Orland. “Art & Fear.” Four-to-six sources, MLA Outline, Works Cited page and oral citations (for exact quotations, as well as paraphrased work of others—no exceptions. A minimum of two oral citations required). Platinum Ticket Format is mandatory. I. Attention (goal to make your topic highly relevant to your audience). Statistic, personal story, rhetorical question, real question II. Need (provide the problem of that which is missing) III. Are music and filmmaking still relevant among today’s youth?
In this world of social media, music and film are relevant among today’s youth. Popular music is present in almost every avenue, radios, recordings, and on the internet.CITATION Imp09 \l 1033 (Pediatrics) Social media platforms have also made it easy for youths to connect with their favorite celebrities. It is astonishing to look at some celebrities’ followers such as Hollywood actor Dwayne Jonson. From his time in wrestling and filmmaking, he has been able to amass an upwards of 180 million followers on Instagram. This shows the amount of influence that artists can have on the population especially the youth
II. Need: Document the disadvantages social media may present to youths in performance arts programs (music, acting, and dance)
* Another byproduct of social media culture is a growing hunger for content and entertainment. CITATION SHE19 \l 1033 (SHERMAN) This means that social media platforms are placing more emphasis on entertainment rather than the art itself.
* Social media is a powerful tool that has allowed individuals to build their brands and image in various departments. Creating an image that is appealing to people requires effort and for musicians and filmmakers, that means stretching the boundaries. Music and film are starting to seem less like art and more of a promotional tool to build brands. CITATION Mus20 \l 1033 (Music Branding )
III. Satisfaction: Youths can appreciate art programs and utilize social media to their advantage in what they hope to achieve.
As an artist, you must not forget the feeling that making art brings to you. Being an artist myself, I understand the feeling of pride and satisfaction in completing a project and sharing it with others. Social media has made it easier for artists to share their art with the world and be recognized. Artists now have a place where they can interact with potential buyers and build a portfolio likely to bring them more opportunities in the future...
