Importance of Living in a Democratic State
Ladies and gentlemen;
Have you ever wondered the difference between life quality for people living in democratic governance and systems and those in other systems like autocratic and monarchs? Democracy is a governance system where the citizens of a country determine the state’s policies through direct voting, electing representatives, or both, in some cases. A July 2019 opinion article in the New York Times screamed, “Democracy is for the Gods,” and that humans should not be surprised that they cannot sustain it. This article made me research a democratic system of governance, consulting America, the Chinese, the English, and some African countries for data about democracies. I found that it is important to live in democratic States although it is not a perfect system. Democracies are best in pursuing equality for the oppressed minority, are flexible and can change depending on the changing ideologies, and help reduce intra and inter-state conflicts.
The democratic governance system allows the oppressed minorities to participate in crucial decision-making processes in a country through voting for the political parties and the people they believe in. Minority groups include the women and the youths who are often left out of essential governance projects because they are deemed weak. Other minority groups include the small ethnic groups or certain races living in a different country, like the African Americans. Democracy allows these groups to elect a representative who will advocate for their rights in a government position.
