Video Presentation Script for Gee's Bend Quilters

Speech Presentation Instructions:

STEP 1 – Make something out of founding objects:
Like the quilters of Gee's Bend who made beautiful quilts out of old clothes and scraps of fabric found around the house, find materials in your home, yard, or neighborhood and make something out of them. What you make can be practical or artistic. In other words, it can have used, or it can be for aesthetic purposes. There are countless things you can make, from painted-rock paperweights to a lap blanket from old T-shirts to a dollhouse out of cardboard boxes and well beyond. Search Pinterest and Google for "outsider art," "found object art," and "found object crafts," for starters. It's okay to purchase supporting materials such as thread, paint, or glue, but make sure the primary materials of your project are things you found.
STEP 2 – Make a 5-minute video presentation showing us your project. Center your discussion on the following questions:
How did you decide what to make?
Is your project practical or artistic?
Did making your project during this time of social distancing and the self-quarantine impact you emotionally? If so, how?
Did making your project help you relate to the women of Gee’s Bend?
Many of the Gee's Bend quilts were made during hard times. Can you draw connections between the circumstances under which they were made and the circumstances under which you made your project?
What surprised you about the process?
What did making your project teach you about sustainability?
What did making your project teach you about your own creativity?
What did making your project teach you about your family, home, or community?

Hello everyone;
Indeed, the COVID-19 times have been tough, pressuring us to be innovative and creative. I innovated a primitive but effective way of making a ball for children. The idea came through my younger brother, whose football was accidentally disposed of with the family garbage. I was left with him in the house when our parents were away. My brother cried for the ball, and I did not have enough money to order a new one prompting me to be creative and make him a ball using waste nylon plastic bags in the house and shoelaces from shoes that were are no longer using. I thought that would prevent him from crying. Moreover, it provoked my creativity, and I made a great ball out of the waste materials that my brother liked even after a new ball was bought for him.
My project is practical because it bridges a gap in children's recreational time. Boys like to play football and basketball, among other games. It can be disastrous when their balls are punctured or get misplaced. My project ensures that the children have an alternative during such times. Others might prefer to play with it instead of the factory-made ball because it is durable, can easily be repaired when damaged, and does not cost money.
Doing my project during this time of social distancing and self-quarantine impacted me emotionally. I have always read in books and newspapers and encountered stories about poverty and hardships in the media, but I had never taken the stories deeply. I come from a fairly stable family where we always get what we want when we request from our parents. However, the situation I was left in when I was with my brother alone in the house and in need of his ball made me reflect on how life is with the people who cannot afford such children's balls and toys. I wondered whether their children cry throughout the time for balls or other objects to use for playing or whether they are used to not having toys. These thoughts made me pity the poor and realize the importance of helping the needy members of society. People never feel a needy person's pain until they are in the situation. Therefore, the project affected me emotion...
